The five books reached their present form in the Persian period. It is said amongst scholars that the books originated as a single work during the Babylonian exile of the 6th century BC. The books of the old testament introduce Bible readers to the divine purpose of God and explain how sin entered the world. In the books we also see the response of God to sin, his relationship with mankind, and gain insight into the character and nature of God.Also called the Pentateuch or the five books of Moses they sit in the Old Testament which contains contains over 30 books books, divided, very broadly, into the Pentateuch (Torah) or Law of Moses, the Historical books, the Wisdom books and the Prophets. The order of the first five books sits as below.

01. Genesis.

Genesis speaks of the beginning of heaven and the earth, of light and darkness, of seas and skies, of land and vegetation, of the sun the moon and the stars, of sea and air and land animals, of human beings, of marriage and family, of society and civilization, of sin and redemption.

02. Exodus.

Exodus lays a foundational theology in which God reveals his name, his attributes, his redemption, his law and how he is to be worshiped.

03. Leviticus.

Leviticus is the book of worship and communion, the proper exercise of the redeemed.

04. Numbers.

Numbers tells of the murmuring and rebellion of the people of God and of their subsequent judgment.

05. Deuteronomy.

Deuteronomy is a book of instruction for the redeemed about to enter that inheritance.
