Triboelectric series or effect. - List

Items in the Triboelectric series are used for generating static electricity.
Tribo in Latin means to rub, which explains the word, but the materials do not have to be rubbed to loose or gain electrons only be in contact. The process of triboelectric charging results in one object gaining electrons and turning negatively charged and the other material loosing electrons and turning positively charged. The list below is from various sources on the triboelectricity series and you are best doing your own experiments to ensure correct. The materials at the top of the list are left positively charged as loose electrons on rubbing with materials lower on the list, the ones near the bottom become negatively charged as gain electrons on rubbing with materials higher on the list. As the distance on the list becomes greater, the amount of charge becomes larger.E.g. Amount of charge between the human body and nylon (Small) E.g. Amount of charge between the human body and polyurethane (Large).
